Write an equation of a line given its slope and a point on the line

 Let m represent the slope of a line and (x1, y1) represent a given point on the line. Let (x, y) represent any other point on the line. See Figure . Then by the slope formula,

point on the line

m = \frac{y - y_{1}}{x - 1_{x}}

m(x – x1) = y – y1 Multiply by x 2 x1

y  – y1 = m(x – x1). equation of a line.
