Problem 954

Find the distance between the pair of points.

(-5,6) and (2,-1)

To find the distance between two point, use the distance formula.

d = \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}}

If we replace x2 by 2, then we replace x1 by -5.

If we replace y2 by -1, then we replace y1 by 6.

d =  \sqrt{(2-(-5))^{2}+(-1-6)^{2}}

= \sqrt{(7)^{2}+(-7)^{2}}

\approx 9.899

The distance between the point is approximately 9.899.
