Problem 944

A set of data items is normally distributed with a mean of 300 and a standard deviation of 40. Convert 340 to a z-score.

Solution:-

We compute the z-score for 340 by using the z-score formula. Substitute the known values into the formula.

Z340\frac{data-item-mean}{standard-deviation}

= \frac{340 - 300}{40}

= \frac{40}{40}

= 1

The z-score is 1. The z-score of a data item greater than the mean is always positive. The data item 340 is 1 standard deviation above the mean.
