Problem 925

Given that the pair of triangles is similar, find the length of the side labeled n.

tang

Solution:-

Since the triangles are similar, corresponding sides are in proportion. thus , the ratio of 40 to 70 is the same as the ratio of n to 14.

\frac{40}{70} = \frac{n}{14}

To find the unknown length, we solve for n.

70 * n = 40*14

70*n = 560

We solve for n  by dividing both sides of the equation by 70.

Simplify to get the unknown length n.

n = \frac{560}{70}

n = 8
