Problem 469

Graph the line containing the given pair points and find the slope.

(2,6), (-4,-2)

Find the slope of the line.

m = ?

Solution:-

Equation of line when two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2)  are given

(y-y1)=(y2-y1)*\frac{(x-x1)}{(x2-x1)}

(2,6) and (-4,-2)

Put the points in formula

y-6=(-2-6)*\frac{(x-2)}{(-4-2)}

y-6=-8\frac{(x-2)}{(-6)}

y-6=4\frac{(x-2)}{3}

do cross multiply

3y-18=4x-8

3y=4x+10

This is the equation of line

And slope=(y2-y1)*(x2-x1)

=\frac{(-2-6)}{(-4-2)}

=\frac{-8}{-6}

Slope m  = \frac{4}{3}
