Problem 465

Solve by the substitution method.

4x + 3y = -10

X = 14 – 9y

What is the solution of the system?

Solution:-

Put the value of x from equation(2) into (1)

4*(14-9y)+3y=-10

56-36y+3y=-10

-33y=-66

Divide both sides by -33

\frac{-33y}{-33}=\frac{-66}{-33}

Y=2

Put this value in equation (1)

4x+3*2=-10

4x+6=-10

4x=-10-6

4x=-16

X=-16/4

X=-4

So final answer is   x=-4    and     y=2
