Problem 250

Problem 250

Solve the following system

a.) Find the equations of the two lines   b.) Solve the system

two lines

Solution

Slope of the line passing from the points (0,2) and (-3,-2)

=\frac{-2-2}{-3-0} = \frac{-4}{-3} = \frac{4}{3}

And y intercept b = 2

So equation is   y=\frac{4}{3} x+2…….(1)

Now slope of line passing from the points (0,-1) and (-2,1)

=\frac{1+1}{-2-0} = \frac{2}{-2}=-1

Y intercept is b =-1

Equation of line is  y= -x-1…….(2)

From equation (1) and (2)

\frac{4}{3} x+2=-x-1

\frac{4}{3} x+x= -2-1

\frac{7}{3} x= -3

x= -3×\frac{3}{7}
