Show how to find the quotient 18 ÷ (-6) by using

a.      The idea of division as finding a missing factor.

b.     The procedure for integer division.

 

Solution

 

a.      Product is 18 and one factor is -6 so other factor will be -3 to get 18.

18 ÷ (-6) =  -3

 

b.      positive integer divided by a negative integer results in a negative integer

18 ÷ (-6) =  -3
