A U.S. nickel contains 3 ounces of copper for every ounce of nickel.  How much nickel is required for 14 pounds of copper?

 

Solution

Suppose we require x ounces of nickel

\frac{1}{3} = \frac{x}{224}

1*224 = x*3

3x = 224

x = \frac{224}{3}

x = 74.67 ounces

We require x ounces of nickel 74.67 ounces
