Problem 118

Problem 118

Suppose that an experiment has five separate mutually exclusive outcomes: A, B, C, D, and E. If the sample space for the experiment is a uniform sample space, what is

P (A or E)?

Solution

P(A) = \frac{1}{5}

P(E) = \frac{1}{5}

P(A or E) = P(A) + P(E)

= \frac{1}{5} + \frac{1}{5}

=\frac{2}{5}
