Problem 314

Problem 314

What is the shortest length of television cable that could be cut into  either a whole number of 18-ft-pieces or a whole number of 30-ft-pieces?

Solution

We need to find LCM to find the shortest length.

18=2 x 3 x 3

30=2 x 3 x 5

LCM =2 x 3 x 3 x 5=90

So the shortest length of television cable will be 90 ft.
