Problem 255

Problem 255

Suppose that someone said that the equation connecting points (-1,1) and (2,3) is  This person wants to know whether the line represented by this equation will contain point (6,9) Identify two ways by which this person can decide whether the graph of the equation contains the point.

Solution

Two points are (-1,1)(2,3)

And given equation is y=\frac{2}{3} x+\frac{5}{3}

If this line contain the point (6,9)

means this line passes through it

Put this point in the given equation

And second way is to find the slope of that line

and two points  one is (6,9)

and other is may be (-1,1)or (2,3)

if we get same slope from both

that means  points (6,9) is a point on the line .
